Pacemakers Free DJ editor
With the recent launch of the Pacemaker Portable DJ mixer and music player, I guess its time for us to have a close look at their free music mixing DJ software. Like the iPod, the Pacemaker Editor is the equivalent of iTunes, but for DJs, it is both a DJ music libary, and a DJ music editor.
The Pacemaker Editor has both a Mac and PC version, seeing as I DJ using a Mac, and this is my preferred format, it was easy to get it all setup with a simple drag and drop install, when I hooked up the Pacemaker to the Mac, everything worked fine and the software was automatically upgraded to the latest version of the Pacemaker Editor.
The Pacemaker Editor is a linear DJ software, it allows you to drag and drop tracks in sequence, ie one track over the other, however it falls short of allowing you to cut up tracks and splice up music. You can over lap music and using an innovative colour coded system, drag and drop effects and cross fades into place on the tracks. As such its not a true dj software in the sense of Ableton or Tracktor, but it acts as a fantastic way to program a set and play around with your Music, as such its not designed for live DJing. Uniquely, as part of the Pacemaker’s community of DJs culture, you can upload your mix to their DJ community for other DJs to enjoy.

As for as what the Pacemaker Editor DJ tool can do:
• Beat detection and pitch/BPM trimming
• Crossfade – cross fade transition and beat match
• Loop – duration and number of repetitions
• Audio effects and filters – Hi-cut/Lo-cut, Roll, Echo, Reverb
• EQ – 3-band; Hi, Mid, Lo: - infinity to + 9 dB
• Reverse play
• Gain and master volume
It is designed to be fully compatible with the portable DJ device, and like all DJ software, it allows you to beat match, adjust pitch, program sets adjust EQ, gain and other aspects. However you will need to spend a little time getting use to the controls, as is to be expected for a new and innovative approach to DJing Music. (more Pacemaker articles by DJ music here)
